pCAM-Free, Dry Synthesis

Dryve Battery Materials operates a 100 tonnes per annum (tpa) pilot scale facility to demonstrate the scalability of its patented pCAM-free, dry cathode synthesis process for nickel-based cathode production. A commercial-scale process comparison study conducted by Hatch Ltd. estimated potential improvements over the conventional process:

Capital expense intensity estimated nearly 30% lower

Processing cost reductions estimated nearly 50% lower

Estimated power consumption improvements of approximately 27%

Removes the need for liquid in the material processing steps

Eliminates other key waste byproducts including sodium sulphate

The pilot line, housed in a 3,200 m2 (35,000 sq. ft.) facility, allows Dryve Battery Materials to demonstrate large-scale production of up to 100 tpa.

Our pCAM-free, dry cathode synthesis process:

Dryve holds foundational patents for its pCAM-free, dry cathode synthesis process in the United States (US12378132, US12434978), Europe (EP4021854, EP4021855), Japan (JP7504195B2), and China (CN114341061B) with additional applications pending. This patented process delivers NMC, NCA, and LMR cathode synthesis technology for materials that are drop-in ready with conventional nickel-based cathode powders.

A variety of single crystal NMC chemistries have been demonstrated at scale, and these materials have been successfully sampled to external parties.

Our latest white paper presents a practical demonstration of pilot scale synthesis of single crystal mid-nickel LiNi0.6Mn0.3Co0.1O2 (SC NMC631) cathode active material using Dryve Battery Materials’ patented dry, pCAM-free technology. Results demonstrate that Dryve’s NMC631 CAM can be a competitive alternative to today’s best-performing commercial material.

  • A patented breakthrough. A world-first, fully scalable method for producing precursor-free NMC cathode powders.
  • A sustainability game-changer. No water. No complex reagents. No sodium sulphate or ammonia byproducts. A dramatically smaller manufacturing footprint.
  • A cleaner supply chain. Reduced land use, lower power consumption, and a more efficient, cost-effective process.
  • Broad chemistry compatibility. Designed for NMC, NCA, and LMR.
